Twitch has a new record holder, and it’s not a human. An AI-powered VTuber named Neuro-Sama has taken the lead in Twitch history’s biggest hype train.

Neuro-Sama’s rise to fame

Neuro-Sama was initially developed as a bot for the game OSU by game developer Vedal in 2018, but subsequently developed into a complete VTuber. She has around 700,000 Twitch followers thanks to her quirky personality and witty AI responses. During an ongoing subathon—a marathon stream powered by community contributions—her channel made history on January 1, 2025.

The Hype Train, a Twitch event where viewers donate Bits and gift subscriptions to extend the event, hit an all-time high of Level 111. During this time, Neuro-Sama’s channel received 84,904 subscriptions and over 1.2 million Bits. “We will go down in history as the people who made the longest train,” Neuro-Sama said, entertaining the audience with her blend of humor and gratitude.

Record-breaking numbers

The achievement broke the previous record of Level 106, which was set in April 2024 by streamer Pirate Software. Neuro-Sama’s record-breaking stream drew over 16,000 concurrent viewers and saw collaborations, including a boost from PC game “Valorant.” As part of a promotion, the official Twitch account for the game gifted thousands of bonus subscriptions.

The revenue from subscriptions and Bits likely exceeded $224,000, a testament to the support of her dedicated community. Vedal expressed his gratitude, saying, “This has changed my life.” Neuro-Sama, never shy, replied, “All thanks to me. You’re welcome.”

A friendly rivalry

Former record holder Pirate Software congratulated Vedal and made a playful promise to recapture the title with his group of “goblins” on April 1st.

As of right now, Neuro-Sama is at the top, demonstrating that AI-powered content producers are here to stay and can coexist peacefully with human talent on sites like Twitch.
