YouTube star Ludwig Ahgren is set to commentate for the Chessboxing Exhibition at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He will be joined by chessboxing champion Mat Thomas.
What is chess boxing?
Chessboxing is a unique sport that combines chess and boxing. Players face off both in the boxing ring and over a chessboard. It’s a mix of brain and brawn, making it a unique event.
Ludwig Ahgren is a well-known YouTuber that has made a name for himself in the chess boxing scene. In 2022, he hosted his own event called the Mogul chess boxing Championship, which was a big hit with 317,000 viewers. Now, he gets to take his love for the sport to the grand stage of the Olympics.
Commentary announcement
Ludwig and Mat Thomas announced their roles as commentators on X (formerly Twitter,) expressing their excitement about the chance to bring chessboxing to a larger audience. However, the matches will not be broadcasted live. Instead, they will be shown later on Ludwig’s YouTube channel.
Thomas added that the event will also be part of a documentary.
“Honored to be doing English commentary with @LudwigAhgren for the @Paris2024 Chessboxing Exhibitions tonight,” he tweeted. “It won’t be live broadcasted, but we will be releasing the @ifc_officiel fights along with a documentary on this historic event. Thanks to all who have supported us and this weird little sport we love!”
The Chessboxing Exhibition will feature two matches: Kenza Megzari vs. Sneha Waykar and Carl Strugnell vs. Valentin Marcel. Although chessboxing has been around since the 1970s, this event marks a significant moment for the sport on the international stage.
More YouTubers at the Olympics
Ludwig isn’t the only YouTuber involved in the 2024 Olympics. Jake Paul is also partnering with the Games to promote boxing.
