Instagram is introducing a new “Notes” feature that lets users comment on grid posts and Reels in a temporary and semi-private manner. By offering a more private and temporary means of exchanging thoughts and feelings, this new feature seeks to improve the way users engage with each other on the platform.
What are Instagram notes?
Originally, Instagram Notes were meant for users to post quick status updates or messages. The user’s contacts can view these messages, which show up next to their profile photo. Users can now leave comments on Reels and grid posts using the new Notes version. These comments expire after three days unless they are removed before then.
Semi-private comments
The new Notes feature’s semi-private nature is one of its main features. Users have the option of controlling who can view their comments, allowing them to be viewed only by a select group of close friends or followers who they followed back. This makes interactions more intimate and private by offering a more limited means of exchanging ideas.
Christine Pai, a spokesperson for Meta, stated, “The Notes feature is designed to give users more control over their interactions on Instagram. We understand the need for privacy and are excited to offer this new way to connect.”
Availability and future updates
On July 18, 2024, Notes on Posts and Reels started to roll out. Not every user will have instant access to the feature, though. The update might not get to everyone for several days or even weeks.
Meta encourages users to explore this new feature and provide feedback to help improve it further. As Christine Pai mentioned, “We are always looking for ways to enhance the Instagram experience and look forward to seeing how our community uses Notes.”
