Twitch recently launched a new set of mental health resources on World Mental Health Day, hoping to help people in need of additional support during difficult times.
A central hub for mental health support
The Safety Center on Twitch provides access to the platform’s new mental health services. Streamers and viewers can use a widget that provides support for a range of issues, including bullying, anxiety, body image and domestic abuse.
“We’re launching mental health resources that you can use when you need extra support, someone to talk to, or want to help a friend or loved one,” Twitch announced on October 10th.
The tool offers both national and local hotlines according to your specific needs. To find local support services, users can filter the resources based on their area. To reach a wider audience, Twitch has also made these services available in 11 additional languages.
Streamers show support for the new initiative
The platform’s commitment to mental health comes at a time when many creators are struggling with stress, anxiety and the pressures of maintaining a digital presence.
This effort comes in the aftermath of the recent scandal involving well-known streamer Sketch, whose personal images were leaked. Sketch acknowledged that these photos were taken at a difficult period in his life, so it is crucial that streamers receive mental health treatment. Twitch is working to create a more encouraging and secure environment on the platform.
