TikTok has expanded its “Add to Music App” feature to include YouTube Music, giving users the ability to save songs they hear in videos directly to a playlist on the streaming service. Once connected, the integration creates a “TikTok Songs” playlist in YouTube Music where all saved tracks are stored automatically.
When watching a video, users now see an “Add Song” button next to the track name. By selecting YouTube Music as the default option, future saved songs will be sent to the TikTok Songs playlist on that platform without additional steps. Users who want to switch to another service can update their default choice in TikTok’s Settings menu.
From launch to expansion
TikTok first introduced “Add to Music App” in late 2023, launching with Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music as initial partners. The feature has since expanded to more than 160 countries and added services such as Deezer and SoundCloud. According to TikTok, it has been used for hundreds of millions of song saves, generating billions of streams across music platforms.
“By partnering with YouTube Music, we’re expanding this impact globally, helping artists reach new audiences while giving fans a seamless way to engage with the music they discover on TikTok,” said Tracy Gardner, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development.
A collaboration of two platforms
The move comes after TikTok announced it would discontinue its standalone TikTok Music service, which had launched in select markets but faced licensing and competitive challenges. Partnering with established music streaming services allows TikTok to continue influencing music discovery while leaving the streaming infrastructure to third parties.
For YouTube Music, this integration provides direct access to TikTok’s user base, which has been a significant driver of music trends and streaming activity. TikTok has not confirmed whether additional integrations are planned, but with YouTube Music now included, its partnerships cover most of the major global streaming services.
