Twitter, now X, started handing out paychecks to qualified X users in 2023. Once the set number of impressions is reached for the past three months, the user (who needs to be subscribed to Blue or verified) is eligible for ad revenue. Some users shared they earned a big amount; some, unfortunately, didn’t. Massive YouTuber JerryRigEverything (Zack Nelson) is one of those creators who got less than they should.
JerryRigEverything’s earnings
Nelson shared in X how much money he made from the platform’s monetization program.
“With some semi viral 17.6 Million impressions here over the last 70 days. With all those impressions, X has paid me about $2 a day to post here. ($187.66 total),” Nelson posted.
This earning is from December of 2023 to February this year. Nelson said that the amount of impressions he got would have earned him $17,000 to $30,000 on YouTube.
“X is definitely a fun place to shoot the breeze, but for an average non-boosted account like mine, there’s definitely no money in creating content specifically for X,” Nelson continued.
X’s monetization has been called out multiple times
Weeks ago, MrBeast posted his first vide on X to test the platform’s payouts. He ended up earning way more than other creators on the platform (about $250K for about 156 million impressions) and called it a “facade.” Creators agreed with him, as some of them got a similar number of impressions but got way less compared to the $250k that MrBeast earned. He’s doing a second experiment to see if the video will get him the same payout.
It is still not clear how the payouts are computed, but reports from JerryRigEverything and other creators, it’s looking like X‘s monetization still needs a lot of work.
