BeamXR has released an early-access app for Meta Quest headsets that lets creators stream directly to Twitch and YouTube without a PC. The app, called BeamXR Live, allows users to manage stream setup entirely within the headset and provides an in-headset chat overlay so streamers can view and respond to audience messages in real time. Quest owners previously had to use casting or desktop-based capture tools to broadcast live, which added extra steps to the process.

How it works, availability and performance

After installing BeamXR Live from the Meta Horizon Store, users can link their Twitch or YouTube accounts, start a broadcast, and see live chat as an overlay during gameplay or mixed-reality experiences. The app supports streaming any Quest title and also includes an option for “just chatting” sessions using a user’s Meta Avatar. All broadcasting functions operate on the headset itself, removing the need for additional hardware or software.

BeamXR Live is available for free in early access and supports recent Quest models. The company says the app has been developed to minimize performance impact compared to Quest casting or built-in recording tools. In-headset chat features have appeared in other VR contexts before, but BeamXR integrates streaming and interaction within a single application. Reports from VR-focused outlets have noted that the ability to stream directly from the headset could make it easier for creators to produce VR content regularly.

Easier streaming to platforms

Streaming directly from a VR headset without a PC could help more creators enter the space by lowering technical barriers. It also offers an opportunity for Twitch and YouTube to see more frequent VR content from casual and professional streamers alike. BeamXR, based in the United Kingdom, previously announced plans to expand its suite of creator tools for VR and mixed reality after securing funding in late 2024.
