Ukrainian YouTuber Kreosan was arrested this week in Japan after reportedly sneaking into the no-entry zone surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. The creator entered the restricted area to film content and is now facing legal consequences under Japanese law.

Charges for trespassing

According to Fukushima Prefectural Police, the YouTuber entered the exclusion zone without permission to capture footage for their channel. Access to the area is restricted due to ongoing decontamination and safety protocols following the 2011 nuclear disaster. The creator was detained on charges including trespassing and violating nuclear safety regulations. Authorities have confiscated the filming equipment and are investigating the extent of the violations.

The YouTuber has not yet made a public statement. Video content from the restricted area was reportedly uploaded to their channel but has since been removed. Local news media cite legal sources indicating the individual could face fines or imprisonment under Japan’s Radiation Disaster Prevention Act.

Strict law on trespassing

Japan imposes strict laws governing access to the Fukushima exclusion zones. Under the Radiation Disaster Prevention Act and related regulations, unauthorized entry or filming in these zones can lead to criminal penalties. Past cases in the region involved tourists or explorers who entered prohibited areas and faced official warnings or fines.

Authorities are continuing their investigation and will determine appropriate charges. The YouTuber may appear in court to face legal proceedings. This incident highlights that content creation entails responsibility. Controversial content that violates laws or safety protocols can damage reputation and long-term credibility. Even if such videos attract attention initially, negative public response, platform sanctions or demonetization may follow. Brands and sponsors are also less likely to partner with creators whose content raises legal or ethical concerns. In some cases, platform policies can lead to suspensions or permanent bans for uploading material tied to unlawful activity.
