When you’re scrolling on social media, you probably see plenty of recommendations for restaurants, movies or books. But now, TikTok and Spotify are making it easier to share music, podcasts and audiobooks. Their new integration lets users easily spread the word about their favorite tracks or podcasts with friends or followers through TikTok videos or direct messages.
How the partnership works
Spotify users can now share what they’re listening to by simply tapping a link, which takes viewers straight to the content on Spotify. TikTok’s new “Share to TikTok” feature also means users can post Spotify and Apple Music content to their TikTok Stories, feeds or direct messages with just a tap.
“Users can access music, podcasts, and audiobooks shared on TikTok by simply tapping the link to go directly to Spotify,” said Spotify in its recent announcement.
Benefits for artists and the music industry
This collaboration has big potential for artists. As TikTok has become a major platform for music discovery, it has the power to push songs into the Billboard 100 or Spotify’s Viral 50 charts. According to Business Insider, around 67% of TikTok users look up songs they’ve heard on the app, creating a ripple effect that helps artists gain popularity.
“‘Share to TikTok’ takes the user experience full circle, and will be an amazing way of promoting artists and tracks to the TikTok community,” said Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development. Now, when a song trends on TikTok, fans can save it to Spotify, leading to even more streams for artists.
More to come
TikTok and Spotify’s collaboration is likely just the beginning. TikTok is already working on expanding into more areas, from movie ticket sales to travel promotion.
For now, fans of both platforms can look forward to more seamless ways to share their favorite content.
