YouTube creators MrBeast and Mark Rober have announced their latest philanthropic initiative, #TeamWater, aimed at addressing the global water crisis. The campaign seeks to raise $40 million to provide clean drinking water to two million people worldwide.
This marks the third major collaboration between the two creators, following the success of #TeamTrees in 2019, which raised $20 million to plant 20 million trees, and #TeamSeas in 2021, which raised $30 million to remove over 30 million pounds of trash from the ocean. With #TeamWater, the duo is taking on one of the most pressing global challenges.
Leveraging technology for clean water
The campaign was introduced through a video on Mark Rober’s YouTube channel, where he visited Kenya to showcase the work of GivePower, a nonprofit using solar-powered reverse osmosis technology to convert seawater into safe drinking water. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the technology, Rober even drank purified water made from his own urine, adding a memorable moment to the campaign’s launch.
The funds raised will be managed by WaterAid, a global organization dedicated to improving access to clean water and sanitation. The campaign has already gained significant traction, raising nearly $1 million within hours of its launch.
Rallying the creator community
As with their previous campaigns, Rober and Donaldson are enlisting the support of fellow creators to amplify their message. Influencers like Kai Cenat, Hank Green, Cleo Abram and FaZe Rug have pledged their support.
In a joint statement, the creators emphasized the power of collective action: “We’ve seen the internet rally behind causes before, from planting millions of trees to cleaning up our oceans. Now, we’re taking on clean water because no one should have to live without it.”
With a proven track record of mobilizing their audience for impactful causes, #TeamWater is poised to make a significant difference in the fight for global water access.
