MoistCr1TiKaL is taking his love of RuneScape from the game to the screen. The YouTube creator, whose real name is Charlie White, will produce an animated series based on the long-running MMORPG through his company, Meatier Productions.
White is teaming up with Lyrical Animation and RuneScape developer Jagex on the project, which arrives as the game celebrates its 25th anniversary. Since launching in 2001, RuneScape has built a massive community, with more than 300 million player accounts created across the franchise.
The series is still in early development, so there’s no release date yet. More details are expected in 2027.
This is more than another game adaptation
White has spent years making gaming content, including plenty of RuneScape videos. He isn’t coming to this as a casual fan. He knows the game and its community, plus the culture that’s grown up around it. Now he gets to bring that perspective into production.
The RuneScape series is one piece of Lyrical Animation’s relationships with online creators. The studio is also working with White on a 2D adaptation of his comic Godslap. Separately, it’s developing a Bloodborne film with fellow creator Jacksepticeye.
Why creators want a seat at the table
Creators like White aren’t lending their names to these projects for a quick popularity boost. They’re playing an active role in shaping new kinds of entertainment for their own communities.
Helping develop the projects gives them more say in how those stories reach fans. They also know what those fans want. That makes sense, since no one knows a creator’s audience better than the person who built it.
