If you’ve been following the Mighty Mike Plays saga, there’s a new twist.
The channel went viral last week after the father of 9-year-old creator Mighty Mike claimed his son accidentally spent $118,000 on YouTube ads. As the story goes, the ads promoted Mighty Mike Plays’ Minecraft and Roblox videos and were charged to a company credit card saved as an online payment method. The dad was supposedly fired and given a short window to repay the debt.
Several YouTubers started poking holes in the account, especially after the family launched pricey merchandise featuring the $118K figure alongside AI-assisted designs. The channel also temporarily disabled comments, which only fed the debate.
Now it’s moved into legal territory.
Mighty Mike’s dad, Dave, reportedly threatened to sue creators who called the story a scam. An email shared online accused those channels of spreading lies and said he planned to sue for libel.
So far, Dave hasn’t publicly identified which YouTubers he intends to target. One creator, Deep Humor, seems to expect he’ll be on that list. He has already responded with a video titled “Mighty Mike Plays Dad is Suing Me,” which revisits the viral video’s claims and reaffirms his skepticism.
Meanwhile, comments are back on the Mighty Mike Plays channel. Links to the questionable merch store are gone, though the store itself is still live.
Dave has promised an update addressing the controversy.
For creators, this is a reminder of how fast online drama snowballs. What began as a bizarre story about a massive ad bill now includes reaction videos, a merch controversy and threatened legal action.
