A major video game adaptation is in the works, and this time, a YouTube creator is directly involved in bringing it to life. Seán McLoughlin, better known as Jacksepticeye, has announced that he is producing an R-rated animated film based on “Bloodborne.”

The project was first revealed during Sony’s CinemaCon presentation, with the studio confirming it will finance and distribute the film. McLoughlin will work alongside PlayStation Productions and Lyrical Animation as part of the production team.

In a video shared with fans, the creator described the opportunity as a “dream project,” emphasizing his long-standing connection to the game and its world.

A fan-turned-producer

While McLoughlin is attached as a producer, he clarified that he will not be directing or writing the film, and those roles have yet to be announced.

The YouTuber has built a large following through gaming content and has repeatedly described “Bloodborne” as his favorite game and is deeply familiar with its lore and tone.

His role, at least in part, is expected to help ensure the adaptation stays aligned with what fans expect from the franchise.

What to expect from the film

The adaptation is being developed as an R-rated animated feature, a commitment to the game’s darker themes and violent aesthetic. Sony has also indicated that the film will remain “very true” to the source material, which is known for its gothic horror setting and complex world-building.

Story details have not been fully revealed, but the original game is set in the city of Yharnam and follows a Hunter navigating a plague that transforms people into monstrous creatures.

Despite the announcement, several key details remain unclear. There is currently no confirmed release date, and the film’s director, writers, and cast have not yet been revealed. Production is still in its early stages, meaning more information will likely emerge as the project develops.
