A former employee of MrBeast has launched a new initiative focused on supporting women in video editing. The project, called EditHers, was created by Rachel Kisela and connects female editors with creators looking for editing talent.
Kisela previously worked as a lead video editor within MrBeast’s production team. During that time, she helped edit several large-scale videos, including a project centered on restoring eyesight for 1,000 blind people. Kisela’s experience in that environment highlighted a pattern she noticed across the industry. Most professional video editing roles still go to men, backed by data from Zippia, which reports that about three-quarters of video editors are male.
A network for female editors
EditHers operates primarily through a Discord community that links editors with creators and production teams. Since launching in 2024, the group has grown to around 200 editors and about 100 creators who are looking to hire editing talent.
Some of the creators connected to the community include well-known YouTube channels such as Airrack, Smosh and projects tied to MrBeast’s network. The platform serves as a place where editors can share opportunities and connect with production teams that need post-production support.
Addressing a wider gap in the creator economy
Research on influencer marketing has shown that while women often secure more brand deals overall, men tend to earn more per sponsored post. Female creators and professionals also report higher levels of harassment, especially in categories such as gaming or science content.
EditHers is meant to function as both a hiring network and a community space to address such a wide gap. Members use it to discuss pay, share industry advice and talk about workplace experiences.
As creator teams grow and YouTube production becomes more complex, the demand for skilled editors continues to increase. Projects like EditHers are emerging as one way to connect creators with a bigger pool of talent while addressing gaps that exist behind the scenes of online video production.
