A new third-party app called CarStream for Twitch now allows users to watch Twitch through Apple’s CarPlay system. The app, which launched in April 2025, is available in 53 countries and is not affiliated with Apple or Twitch.

While Apple doesn’t officially support video streaming apps on CarPlay, CarStream for Twitch works around this by using CarPlay’s WebKit browser integration to deliver a web-based interface optimized for Twitch.

Developed independently and not endorsed by Apple or Twitch

CarStream for Twitch was created by developer Adarsh K, who previously released a Reddit browser for CarPlay. The app uses a locally hosted server to display Twitch streams on the vehicle’s screen. It supports account login and stream browsing but does not allow chat interaction or full-screen viewing.

According to the developer, CarStream for Twitch does not include analytics or data tracking.

Limited to viewing only

The app is intended solely for viewing content. It does not support going live or interacting through Twitch’s typical features. Viewers can log in and select streams, but the experience is simplified compared to the mobile or desktop version.

Video playback appears in a small window, and users need to manually refresh the interface to load different streams. Chat and other interactive tools are not available.

CarStream for Twitch is compatible with physical CarPlay systems in vehicles, not just CarPlay simulators used by developers. Its functionality relies on the integration of WebKit, Apple’s browser engine, to render a stripped-down Twitch experience suitable for the car dashboard environment.

The app is designed to minimize distractions by limiting features and reducing the size of the video display.

Future availability may depend on Apple

Because CarStream for Twitch operates outside of Apple’s standard developer tools and uses a workaround to access Twitch on CarPlay, its long-term functionality is uncertain. Apple could disable this method in future software updates if it conflicts with CarPlay’s safety guidelines or developer policies. However, for now, the app remains live and functional.
