During TwitchCon Europe 2026 in Rotterdam, Twitch unveiled Dual Format, a feature that lets creators simultaneously stream in both horizontal and vertical orientations. The system automatically delivers the version best suited to the viewer’s device, with desktop users seeing the traditional horizontal layout and mobile users receiving a full-screen vertical experience.

Mobile viewers who prefer the classic view can still rotate their device to watch the horizontal version.

The feature is currently in beta and is expected to roll out more broadly in the coming weeks.

Designed for both desktop and mobile audiences

The update addresses a growing trend toward mobile-first viewing without requiring creators to produce separate broadcasts.

According to Twitch, Dual Format is powered by its Enhanced Broadcasting technology, which generates multiple versions of a stream simultaneously. To reduce the additional processing demands, the company will add server-side transcoding support for Partners and many Affiliates when the feature launches.

The goal is to allow creators to reach desktop and mobile audiences through a single livestream rather than choosing one format over the other.

Other creator tools announced

Alongside Dual Format, Twitch announced several additional updates focused on discovery and engagement.

The platform is expanding 2K (1440p) streaming to all Partners and Affiliates, increasing supported bitrates for higher-quality broadcasts. It also introduced Mid-Stream Summaries, which generate a brief recap for viewers joining a stream after it has already begun.

Another new feature, Auto Clips, automatically creates shareable highlights by analyzing chat activity, vocal inflection and on-screen events. Twitch says the tool is intended to make it easier for creators to distribute short-form clips after their broadcasts.

The platform also plans to add automatic captions for community clips and surface top clips more prominently through Twitch Stories.

By allowing simultaneous vertical and horizontal broadcasts, the platform is adapting to audiences that increasingly consume livestreams on smartphones while maintaining the traditional viewing experience for desktop users.
