TikTok is dominating as a platform for short-form content. However, the platform has been adding features to accommodate long-form and text-based contents. With the launch of TikTok’s text posts, the company hopes that it “broadens options for creators to share their ideas and express their creativity.”

This year is the year of exciting updates for TikTok and its users. For instance, the company added more monetization features such as Creative Challenge, Effect Creator Rewards and Series. Earlier this year, TikTok also added more features to the app, such as scrubbing thumbnails in videos, support to images where music can be added and more editing tools for creators.

How can creators use the new format?

Text posts are actually common in TikTok; however, creators use the text caption on their videos to create such posts. With this new feature, they don’t have to show their faces or use a video as a background to make a post.

According to TikTok, users can use Text to post their stories, poems, recipes and many more. A user can also add sound, tag location, allow comments and duets, etc. The posts can be made more creative, too, by adding stickers, hashtags and background colors.

This new feature allows creators to play around with different types of content and share stories in text form. According to TikTok, “We’re excited to see what our community will create with text posts, a new way to express and share your creativity on TikTok.”

New vying competition to Twitter and Threads

TikTok added the new text post feature on the day Musk announced Twitter’s controversial rebrand to X. Meta’s Threads is also growing as a text-based platform in competition to Twitter (now X). Considering all this, TikTok is likely adding text posts to its platform to offer users and content creators another platform for such content. “At TikTok, we’re always looking to empower our creators and community with innovative tools that inspire self expression,” they wrote in its blog post
