Rooster Teeth, the studio behind popular animated web series such as RWBY, Red vs. Blue and Gen:Lock, is making a comeback after nearly shutting down last year due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s failure to sell the company. The revival comes as Box Canyon Productions, owned by Rooster Teeth co-founder Burnie Burns, has acquired many of Rooster Teeth’s assets.
Burns expressed excitement about returning the company to its roots and focusing on innovation, community engagement, and creativity. Box Canyon Productions plans to launch several new projects in 2025, including the renewed production of classic shows, a reimagining of Burns’ first film titled “The Scheduled”, and a new audio drama.
Burnie Burns’ vision for Rooster Teeth
Burnie Burns, one of the original founders of Rooster Teeth, has acquired the brand just under a year after it was shut down for good. Back in March 2024, Warner Brothers Discovery revealed that Rooster Teeth would be closing its doors after 21 years of creating content.
Now, with Burns at the helm, the company aims to return to its roots, focusing on innovation, community engagement, and creativity. Burns emphasized the importance of the fans in this revival, stating, “The heart of this brand has always been its fans, and I look forward to writing a new chapter together.”
Upcoming projects
Box Canyon Productions plans to launch several new projects in 2025 under the Rooster Teeth brand. These include the renewed production of some of the platform’s classic shows, a reimagining of Burns’ first film titled “The Scheduled,” and an all-new audio drama. However, specific details about these projects are still under wraps.
As Rooster Teeth reestablishes itself under Burnie Burns’ leadership, the focus seems to be on delivering quality content that resonates with its dedicated fanbase.
