According to reports, Netflix and Spotify have reached a deal involving “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” one of Spotify’s largest podcast properties. The agreement will reportedly bring video versions of the podcast to Netflix, while Spotify will continue to handle audio distribution and podcast-related services.

Shetty’s success on podcasting

“On Purpose” has become one of Spotify’s most recognizable interview and wellness podcasts, featuring conversations with celebrities, entrepreneurs, authors and public figures. Shetty built a large online audience through motivational content focused on mindfulness, relationships and personal development, later expanding into books, live events, brand partnerships and multi-platform media projects.

The show has released more than 800 episodes and generated over one billion views globally. Over the years, Shetty has interviewed a wide range of public figures, including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Madonna, Joe Biden, Emma Watson, Selena Gomez, Will Smith, Tom Holland, Kim Kardashian, Tom Hanks and Kobe Bryant.

On YouTube, the podcast’s dedicated channel currently has around 5.6 million subscribers and averages roughly 15 million monthly views. When YouTube introduced its official podcast charts in May 2025, On Purpose debuted at No. 55 and is currently ranked at No. 89.

“It is truly a dream come true to be partnering with Netflix and Spotify at the same time. I would never have believed when I started the podcast just seven years ago this would happen,” Shetty said in a statement.

Expanding beyond traditional podcast platforms

By expanding onto Netflix, the show moves closer to a hybrid format that combines podcasting with streaming television distribution.

The reported agreement stipulates that podcast content is increasingly being treated as premium video programming rather than remaining exclusive to audio-focused platforms.

Netflix has gradually expanded into creator-led and interview-based formats over the past several years, while Spotify has invested heavily in video podcasts and creator partnerships as competition in podcasting continues to grow.

Spotify recently introduced new creator membership systems, AI-generated podcast tools and additional monetization features during its 2026 Investor Day presentation. Netflix, meanwhile, has been increasing its involvement with digital creators and internet personalities through live events, comedy specials, sports-adjacent programming and influencer-focused productions.
